Apex Computers, a provider of integrated IT systems and services, announced today that it has won a £300k contract to supply and install two new IBM Power7 systems for South Marston Distribution Centre (SDC). SDC is a logistics company, based in Swindon, whose primary commercial responsibility is procuring and distributing parts into Honda’s main UK manufacturing plant. The solution consists of two IBM Power7 systems running IBM iCluster logical replication, designed to seamlessly integrate with SDC’s bespoke warehouse management system used to support their business and marketed to customers worldwide. The new system allows SDC to accommodate more customers through scaling up their hosting solution offering, a key part of their business strategy.
Gary Stewart, SDC’s ICT coordinator commented, “We chose Apex to implement the IBM systems for SDC. We have confidence that we’ve put in place the best IT systems that will allow us to increase the speed of our batch files by 40%. This will result in a significant improvement in our customers’ user experience. It also provides us with the stability and scalability that we need to attract more business through offering this greatly improved service. It will also save us money on running costs due to the power7 servers being more efficient and cheaper to support which we will see as a bottom line benefit from day one”.
Duncan Bulley, Apex’s Managing Director, commented “We’ve worked with SDC for over 10 years and are delighted to continue our partnership with them. The increased performance of the Power7 systems gives SDC a competitive edge to help them win new business whilst also delivering an improved, first class service to their existing customers.
