About this tool

FLiP (Flash IBM i Performance) is an IBM FlashSystem® assessment tool for IBM i workloads developed by IBM.

The best IBM i job candidates for this tool are typically those that are spending proportionally most of their total run time waiting for Read disk I/Os. This tool will help you identify the jobs that could potentially take benefit from IBM FlashSystem© technology in order to improve their runtime performance.

Before starting, you will need an IBM I MGTCOL and/or the performance data created on an available IBM i System. Please refer to this Guide for instructions on how to correctly compile the performance data.

Meraki is Cisco’s network-as-a-service solution, comprising hardware, software and cloud services. The Cisco Meraki product set has been designed from the ground up to provide an intuitive interface to a Cloud managed network.

A scalable solution for LAN, wireless LAN and secure connectivity within and/or between site(s), Meraki’s standard architecture supports integrated end-to-end network visibility. This detail combined with fine control of applications, users and client devices simplifies mobile device management, application control and security.

The features of Meraki can be used, for example, to implement bring your own device (BYOD) policies in the workplace. Meraki enables the network administrator to view a detailed breakdown of web usage per client, whether the clients are using iOS, Android, Mac or Windows devices.

On the 30th September 2013, IBM will withdraw software support of the IBM i V5R4 operating system. V5R4 has been available since 2006, and with its End of Service scheduled for 2013, it will have been supported longer than any prior release.[br][br]

Dr Frank Soltis is an American computer scientist and IBM's AS/400 Chief Architect. Dr Frank is better known as 'the father of the System i' and today's Power Systems. Soltis' views on system architecture and his unique approach to protecting business software assets led to the most successful commercial computer platform in history.
